Pressure Equipment Directive

​Overview

  • The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) (2014/68/EU) applies to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of stationary pressure equipment with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0,5 bar. The directive entered into force on 20 July 2016.

  • Within the scope of the directive, ‘Pressure equipment’ may be defined as vessels, piping, safety accessories and pressure accessories. In addition, pressure equipment includes elements attached to pressurized parts, such as flanges, nozzles, couplings, supports, lifting lugs, etc.

  • The aim of the directive is the ensure that pressure equipment and assemblies to be used above specified pressure and/or volume thresholds shall be safe, meet essential safety requirements covering design, manufacture and testing, satisfy appropriate conformity assessment procedures.
